In October of 2004, we started a series of hip-hop shows at the Foufounes Electriques. We were sick of $45 shows, we were sick of seeing the same local groups on every bill, and we were sick of Canadian groups from other cities not getting on well-promoted Montreal shows or not getting on Montreal shows at all.Our idea was simple: bring in good American hip-hop acts at affordable ticket prices, have a different Montreal group open each show, and bring in another Canadian group from a different city as the second opener. The series has been an unparalleled success and the response has been unbelievable. The shows have all remained at $15 or less, and each show has drawn a minimum of 500 people. The Masta Ace show and the Non Phixion & A-Trak show both sold out the venue – an unheard of feat for underground hip-hop in Montreal. The series won’t slow down so stay tuned for the next show!
